Magnesia Partially Stabilized Zirconia
Mg-PSZ (Magnesia Partially Stabilized Zirconia) is processed at extremely high temperatures. Using magnesia (MgO) as a stabilizer, this cubic phase material is loaded with tiny tetragonal phase precipitates, yielding the highest degree of transformation toughening available. This material tops the list for fracture toughness!
Mg-PSZ by Refractron is engineered for outstanding mechanical properties. Zirconia ceramics exhibit the highest strength and fracture toughness as well as the highest resistance to wear, abrasion, and corrosion of any of the advanced ceramic materials. These materials solve wear problems when other wear resistant materials such as tungsten carbide do not meet the performance requirements. It is the material of choice for chemical processing, industrial and petrochemical industries.
Mg-PSZ has a material density of greater than 5.75 g/cc, a maximum operating temperature of 500 C and a Flexural strength of 620+ MPa. The Hardness is 10.7 GPa, the Fracture Toughness is 10 MPa-m1/2 and Thermal expansion (C.T.E.) is 10 x E6/ degree C.
Refractron's Mg-PSZ is the optimum choice in ceramic liners and valve components. Components made with Mg-PSZ have superior abrasion resistance as compared to stainless steel, D2-Steel, Stellite Alloys, and Tungsten Carbide. In addition, zirconia is inert to acids, bases, solvents, and other corrosive slurries and fluids. Mg-PSZ components provide:
- Extended service life enabling improved operating efficiencies
- Reduced maintenance costs
- Minimum downtime with less frequent repairs
In addition to Mg-PSZ components, other ceramic components produced by Refractron include: tooling blanks in Y-TZP plus a range of porous ceramic filters, diffusers and adsorbent filter/drier cores for refrigeration applications, dispersion parts, vacuum chucks, inkpads and gas probes.
